Film Club – the last, best video store

I don’t have Wi-Fi, but if I did, I know I wouldn’t use it to browse Netflix. Why would I… when I have the last, best video store just down the road from me? I could spend hours in the aisles of Film Club.

Film Club is located at shop 136A Darlinghurst Road. It has been serving the Darlo community since November 2011. It is, without a doubt, Sydney’s premier film rental library, with over 20,000 titles on DVD and Blu-Ray. Film Club also sells a range of limited edition screen printed film posters, DVDs, books and assorted snacks (Cadbury Clinkers!).

On your first visit to Film Club, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed. There is so much to look at! In my opinion, the best sections are:

  1. TV series: where you will find the latest season of “Broad City”.
  2. Foreign: my favourite French film “The Intouchables” is always out so call ahead.
  3. Action: every Clint Eastwood, Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington movie that your heart desires.

I think you can tell a lot about a person by their favourite film. That’s why if someone tells me that they haven’t heard of Casablanca or Humphrey Bogart, I see that as a little red flag. However, if you haven’t had the chance to watch the classics then don’t worry, Film Club has you covered all the way back to the roaring 1920s. Broadsheet Sydney believes Film Club is:

“Perhaps the whole country’s most comprehensive classics collection.”

I second this. It’s a cinephile’s paradise! And speaking of film buffs, Ben (the owner) and Ian have the most impressive memories and film knowledge. I dare you to name your favourite movie! I bet you (a clinker) that they will find it within two minutes. Alternatively, if you are not a chatterbox like me you can always consult their recommendation wall, which is constantly updated.

Be sure to drop by Film Club ASAP!

Here’s looking at you, kids.

Film Club ❤
I like the colours in cult and horror. Although, I’m too scared to check them out!
